Château-Thierry German Military Police Unit Incident Repoirt: Filed by Staff Sergent Janborek:
Lieutenant Kurtzberg's aircraft wreck crashed about the city of Villers-Cotterêts around 10:30. Though no inhabitant of the city was injured, bombs fallen in the vicinity of the wreckage exploded on impact destroying four buildings. A salvage team coming from Amifontaine rushed to the place of the event, led by a Feidwebel named Weber. The german sergent found nine dead bodies among the wreckage and sent a barely alive man (sergent McIver - in reality Sergent Joe Pino) to a hospital in Paris. Unfortunately, he also died. Feldwebel Weber saw to it that the nine crew members of the 96th bomb wing be buried with full military honours, and, despite german occupation, the Villers-Cotterêts Liberation Committee managed to keep fresh flowers on the tombstones until france was freed. |
This testimony makes the mistake of considering Joe Pino dead, and asserts that the bombs exploded, which is in contradiction with the other testimonies mentionning only one explosion and then no other sound. |
